IX International Scientific & Practical Conference "Computer Hydromechanics"

RESEARCH DEPARTMENT OF STRATIFIED FLOWS

 FROM HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department was organized in 1981 on the basis of the Department of Hydrodynamics of Two-Phase Flows headed by the winner of the State Prize of the USSR, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor M.O.Silin (till 1972) and Candidate of Technical Sciences V. M. Karasik (since 1972 to 1981). Since 1981 to 2016 it was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Stepan Ivanovich Kril. In this period, the Department staff was 11 employees, including one Doctor and two Candidates of Sciences (PhD).

In 2017 the Department was included to the Research Department of Hydrodynamics of Hydraulic Engineering Structures.

The main directionof the research activity

Researches in the Department are conducted in field of hydro- and aerodynamics of two-phase media related to pipeline hydraulic and pneumatic transport of the dispersed solid materials. The importance and future prospects of this research direction are due to the widespread use of these transport facilities in many areas of the economy, especially in mining, metallurgical and coal industry, as well as in the heat, the chemical industry and so on. Both the basic and applied research in the Department are aimed at studying of transfer of solids particles by turbulent liquid and gas flows and creation of theoretical foundations of hydro-aerodynamic calculation of pipelines.

Main scientific results

The main fundamental result is creation of the theoretical basics of the statistical mechanics of a two-phase turbulent media. The macroscopic motion of such media and their phase components is described by equations of hydro- and thermodynamics averaged over the probability and weitten in the allowance for the effects of different interfacial interactions.

An important result of Department’s activity are regulations on hydraulic calculation of industrial piping systems for hydro-mining and processing plants, enterprises of black and nonferrous metallurgy.
