ACOUSTIC MEDICAL EQUIPMENT

At the IHM NASU much attention is paid to developing of innovative medical tools for non-invasive acoustic diagnostics of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. These studies correspond to the the advanced world trends in this area, and most our developments are unique not only in Ukraine but also in the former Soviet Union and Central Europe.

COMPLEXES FOR NON-INVASIVE RECORDING
AND AUDIO-VISUAL ANALYSIS OF RESPIRATORY SOUNDS "CORA"

CORA-03-M1 complex 

The prototypes of multi-channel computer systems for non-invasive recording and audio-visual analysis of respiratory sounds and diagnosis of lung diseases "CoRA" have been created by the Department of Hydrodynamical Acoustics. These complexes are equipped with highly sensitive acoustic sensors and original software for documenting, storage, analysis and visualization of the received signals developed at the IHM NASU.

The four-channel complex "CoRA 03-M1" has passed the State Registration procedure in Ukraine. In 2008, the certifications for use of the complex medical practice and to the right of its serial production have been received.

ELECTRONIC STETHOSCOPES "EPHON"

A family of electronic stethoscopes – portable tools for auscultation (listening) of the respiratory and cardiovascular sounds – is created  in the Department of Hydrodynamical Acoustics, namely:

  • stethoscopes of the microphone type with a traditional air chamber;
  • stethoscopes with a contact piezoelectric microphone, having a high-linear frequency response;
  • training stethoscopes designed for the simultaneous group listening to the signal.

All of them enable the diagnostician to high quality listening of the life activity sounds from the body surface with real time transfer to a computer for further processing and analysis. There are the possibilities for electronic amplifiying of the signal level and its filtering in several frequency ranges: for extraction of the cardiovascular and lung sounds and in the extended band.

 
EPHON-08 is a fully functional device that competes with modern electronic stethoscopes in terms of main characteristics.
 
DESCRIPTION OF THE FUNCTIONS
  • Direct matching with a smartphone or tablet (through the analog headset input) or PC (through the microphone or linear input).
  • Original piezoceramic contact pressure sensor.
  • Flat amplitude-frequency response.
  • Multiple gradations of signal amplification in 6 і 10 dB steps.
  • Two auscultation regimes provided with frequency filters:
«heart» - (20…400) Hz;
«lungs» - (100…2000) Hz.
  • Compatibility with a wide range of models of headphones.
  • Ability to listen to audio played on a smartphone through low-impedance headphones «on-fly».
  • Suitable LED indication on the control panel.

SPECIAL SOFTWARE FOR DIGITAL AUSCULTATION

Software for digital auscultation
The application is designed for the control of digital auscultation with a smartphone.
 
DESCRIPTION OF THE FUNCTIONS
  • Matching of electronic stethoscope with portable devices (smartphones or tablets) controlled by Android operational system, starting from version 4.x.
  • Input of patient's main data with creating of his/her personal folder.
  • Graphic designation of the selected auscultation point.
  • Recording of patient's life sounds and their storing at portable device as audio file.
  • Repeated listening to received audio records.
  • Entering of short text and audio comments attributed to the record.
  • Sending of records from the local archive to the selected email address (via mobile Internet, WiFi).
  • Loading of records from the local archive to a PC (via USB connection by means of eSTETH extractor application).
