INFODAY OF THE FRAMEWORK PROGRAM "HORIZON 2020":
THE V.M.BAKUL' INSTITUTE FOR SUPERHARD MATERIALS OF NASU,
KYIV (16-17 May, 2013)

An infoday information day to the new Framework Programme called "Horizon 2020" starting in 2014 of was held on 16-17 May 2013. Inter alia, it was attended by the Director of the V.M. Bakul Institute of Superhard Materials of NASU, Academician of NASU Prof. Nikolay Novikov, Deputy Director of the Lviv Center of Science, Innovation and Informatization Ivan Kulchytskyy, an Academic Secretary of the Scientific and Organization Department of the Presidium, Expert of the BILAT-UKR*AINA FP7 project Gorokhovatskaya, representatives of academic institutions involved in the implementation of the Framework programs, public research organizations, business structures.

Mr. Ivan Kulchytskyy, a Coordinator of the National Contact Point with the EU Framework Programmes in areas of "Information and Communication Technologies" and "Research for the Benefit of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises", told the audience about the structural and financial characteristics of the "Horizon 2020" distinguishing it from the running Seventh Framework Programme. These aspects were detailized in the report of Dr. Olga Kot (the G.M.Dobrov Center for Scientific and Technological Potential and Science History Studies of NASU), a representative of the National Contact Point in " Social-Economic Sciences and Humanities".

In course of the meeting, Prof. Yurii Nikitin, the Coordinator of the FP7 START project performed by the ISM NASU together with the partners from Poland and France, presented a detailed information on the current status of the project and up to date tasks facing its consortium. The other promising proposals of the Institute, which are in various stages of formation and could become the basis for the projects participanting in future "Horizon 2020", aroused the interest of the audience.

Discussions for the creation of new structures in Ukraine as the National Technology Platforms (NTPs) of researchers, producers and potential consumers high-end solutions and high-tech products in certain branches of industries. It was understood that a viable form of this type can only occur in response to the significant strategic challenges related to current societal and economic priorities. In particular, the director of the Center "Kharkov Technologies" Inna Gagauz presented the project "Kharkov Innovation Platform".

The exchange of experience held during the information days will be useful for the Ukrainian members of ERAIHM consortium in the preparation and submission of new projects under the Framework Programme "Horizon 2020".
