A SEMINAR ON RENEWABLE ENERGY
AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY BY SWEDISH INSTITUTE

On November 8, a seminar by Swedish Institute (Si) dedicated to problems of development of renewable energy and energy efficiency was held in Kyiv in connection to the 5th International Specialised Exhibition ”Energy Efficiency - 2012”. This respectable event had considerable public repercussions and has drawn an extended audience wich base was formed by the specialists on mentioned problems. A Senior Si Project Manager for Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia, Swedish Trade Council Bohdan Senchuk was a moderator for the seminar.

Head of the State Agency of Ukraine on Ensuring of Efficient Use of Energy Resources ("NAER") Mykola Pashkevych and Programme Officer for Environment and Energy Efficiency of Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) Andrei Parinov have greeted the participant and gave the floor with introductory speeches. A Program Manager of Swedish Institute Ann Häger presented the detailed information about Baltic Sea Cooperation Program leaded by Si.

Afterwards, due to programme, the participants have proceeded to considering of the projects funded by Si. In particular, Prof. Mikael Backman (International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) at Lund University, Sweden) has infromed about history and success of the Swedish-Polish Sustainable Energy Platform and Prof Lars Ryden (Uppsala University, Sweden) education, research and applied energy projects for production and utilizing of biogas in Belarus. A Postgraduate of Uppsala University Eduard Dyachuk told about his investigations related with developing of wind rotors with vertical axis.

Within the frameworks of Ukrainian-Swedish cooperation, Dr. Olga Kordas (Royal Institute of |Technologa, Stockholm, Sweden) and Prof. Eugene Nikiforovich (Institute of Hydromechanics of NAS of Ukraine) have presented their new project titled ReNERGY, to start at the end of November. This project includes carrying out of investigations that should stimulate the development of technologies for renewable energy in our country. In doing so, an active cooperation with an Association "Energy Efficient Cities of Ukraine", being one of participants of the project, is implied.

The reports caused living exchange with opinions in form of questions and answers. Further, the discussion was continued behind the scenes. Also, participants of the seminar had an opportunity to acquaint themselves with table-books, booklets and brochures adverticing the activity of the Swedish Institute in supporting of Ecological Energy.
