An intensive coures of lectures "Technology and Sustainability.
Learning Process" was presented on 26 January, 2012 at the National Technical
University of Ukraine "KPI" within the frameworks of
CREDO project.
The researchers from the Institute of Hydromechanics, participant of
ERAIHM team took active part in this training together with the students of NTUU "KPI".
Deputy 1-st Vice-Rector of NTUU KPI Dr. Volodimir Timofeev has opened the
session. Then the following presentations were offered to the audience:
Dr. Olga Kordas (KTH, Stockholm, Sweden): An Introduction to the Course,
Prof. Jordi Segàlas (the University BarcelonaTech, Spain):
"Educating Engineers for Sustainability", Prof. Ronald Wennersten
(KTH, Stockholm, Sweden): "Grand Challenges in Energy", Dr. Karel Mulder
(TU Delft, the Netherlands): "Long-Term Thinking for Sustainable
Development". The key-note of this course was the necessity for educating
of the specialists with new strategic thinking taking into account the
long-term consequences of of certain technological decisions for
economy and society and implying the responsible approach to their
adoption. Every lecture was accompanied by living interested discussion.
According to the backcasting technique, the express-poll of students was
organized during the practical part of the study. Its goal was to form the
vision of
knowledges,skills and qualities should the modern engineer possess, seeing
that he is ready to work within the paradigm of Sustainable Development.
Achieved conclusions will be of use in developing of future course for
master students from NTUU "KPI" and other European Universities
dedicated to Sustainable Development.
