Numerical modeling of admixture transport in boundary layer over concave wall

Applied hydromechanics, Vol. 15 (87) ¹ 1, (2013) p.94-98
The results of numerical modeling of the development of steamwise vortices arising in a boundary layer that formed in circular Couette flow between rotating cylinders after stopping of the external cylinder are presented. Vortex initialization was realized by introducing of vorticity perturbations at given distance from wall. The process of admixture transport is studied, passive markers are considered as admixture. At given instant of time they were discretely distributed along transversal coordinate. Their displacements under effect of streamwise vortices in time are analyzed. It is found that they achieve the upper border of boundary layer rather fast though this is takes place under tops of "mushroom" structures.
