Extension of the problem of excitation and propagation of action potential along a nerve fibre

Generalization of the problem of nerve excitation propagation is presented within the framework of the Hodgkin-Huxley model. The exact analytical solution is obtained on the basis of the Laplace transform and the Efros' theorem in the case when the initial (input) excitation pulse deviates from the Heaviside step-function. The comparative analysis of calculations with obtained for the case of the exciting Heaviside unction is conducted. The influence of deviation on the pulse propagation is analysed in detail as the solution corresponding to the Heaviside function is approached.
