Direct numerical simulation of flow in plane suddenly expending channel on the basis of Navier-Stokes equations

Applied hydromechanics, Vol. 12 (84) ¹ 1, (2010) p.11-27
The results of experimental studies of wave processes in the two-layer system of immiscible conducting fluids bounded by horizontal plates-electrodes are presented. The fluids fill a rectangular cell situated in the uniform vertical magnetic field. With increase of current passing through fluids the equilibrium state of the MHD-system becomes unstable. Such instability appears as arising of interfacial waves. The critical values of current strength corresponding to the regime of interfacial waves excitation are found. Computation of the stability region boundary in the space of basic parameters of the MHD-system is carried out. Calculation results are compared with experimental data.
