Transformation of internal solitary waves of high amplitude over bottom step

Applied hydromechanics, Vol. 11 (83) ¹ 3, (2009) p.65-76
The dynamics and energy transformation of internal solitary waves of large amplitude, propagating in a fluid with two-layer stratification at a bottom step are investigated numerically. Calculations are performed in frame of the Navier-Stokes equations in the Boussinesq approximation using non-hydrostatic model. Simulation results generalize the theoretical analysis of the interaction of solitary waves of small amplitude with bottom steps (Grimshaw et al., 2008) in case strongly-nonlinear waves, when the effects of dissipation and mixing are significant.
