Noise-protective properties of the barriers located along the both sides of traffic artery

Acoustic bulletin, Vol. 13 ¹ 4, (2010) p.3-14
Noise-protective properties of the barriers are considered for the cases of their location along the both sides of traffic artery. The traffic noise is modeled by the sound source in form of the infinite pulsing strip. The barriers with the hard and sound absorbing walls have been considered. For presence of the acoustically hard walls, the occurrence of resonant phenomena is shown to be typical, that leads to abrupt decrease of their noise protection in the separate narrow frequency bands. In the cases when the barrier's walls are the sound absorbing ones, the resonant effects are almost absent and noise-protective properties are essentially improved. Also, manifestation of the resonances might be somewhat weakened by the allowance of slight slope of the barriers.
