A projection method for solving the problem on eigen-oscillations of viscous liquid in a cylinder with allowance for surface tension

The paper deals with the problem on eigen-oscillations of viscous incompressible liquid with a free surface in a right circular cylinder under action of gravitational force with allowance for surface tension. A projection method for approximate solving the problem is proposed. In doing so, the coordinate functions are developed that posses the qualitative properties of desired solution, satisfy the problem equations inside the domain and some boundary conditions. The found frequencies and logarithmic oscillation decrements are compared with experimental data and results obtained by an asymptotic method. It is shown that at low Galileo numbers H, the proposed projection method is more accurate than the asymptotic one.
