Modal classification and design of sonotrodes for ultrasonic material processing

It is shown that wide class of the sonotrodes (waveguide instruments or concentrators) used in the technology facilities for ultrasonic material processing allows systematization after modal features. Motion types occurring in the sonotrodes may be corresponded with the characteristic segments of frequency spectrum branches for the rectangle and solid cylinder. The sonotrode types are determined as the low- and high-frequency ones according to positions of the mentioned segments in the spectrum. The structural peculiarities of the resonance mode allow separation of the three types: the one-mode elements, converters and multi-step ones. The corresponding marking of the sonotrodes is offered. The main design stages and its mathematical apparatus are considered.
