Extension of cross-section method to the problem of wave propagation in the elastic layer with continuously varying parameters

Acoustic bulletin, Vol. 1 ¹ 2, (1998) p.41-47
The cross-section method used for studying liquid acoustic waveguides has been extended to the two-dimensional problem on wave motion of the isotropic elastic layer with the material and shape parameters subjected to smooth variation along the direction of wave propagation. The specified cross-section operator is defined on the set of four-dimensional vector-functions which components are horizontal and vertical displacements, a rotor component and divergence. The orthogonallity relations for the operator eigenfunctions have been obtained and the equation for coupled modes have been derived. The eigen-values for the waveguide shaped as an elastic wedge have been investigated.
