Model of migration of radioactivity in the bed sediments

A new three-dimensional numerical model for dispersion of radionuclides in seas and the inland waters is presented. The model takes the interaction with multifractional suspended and bottom sediments into account. The multilayer description of bed sediments allows the description of radionuclide migration in the bottom sediments due to erosion, deposition of suspended sediment, as well as molecular diffusion in the pore water and mechanical mixing by the benthic organisms. The numerical results are compared with the laboratory experiment for migration of 134Cs in the bed sediments.
