Motion of supercavitating vehicle during underwater speeding-up

Applied hydromechanics, Vol. 17 (89) ¹ 4, (2015) p.36-42
The work purpose is analysis of acceleration process for underwater supercavitating vehicles from a low starting velocity up to the cruise supercavitation flow regime. The research method is computer simulation of the supercavitating vehicle dynamics. It is shown that supercavitating vehicles during acceleration have a "hump of drag which can be overcome with the cruise engine with constant thrust only in the presence of intensive gas supply into the cavity with the purpose of acceleration of its development. We consider a regime of speeding-up by means of application of a starting accelerator and simultaneous advanced gas-supply into a growing cavity. For a concrete calculation model one determines minimal and optimal values of both the starting engine thrust and the gas supply on the underwater acceleration part.
