Calculating the parameters of fire jets of sprayed water

Applied hydromechanics, Vol. 17 (89) ¹ 4, (2015) p.03-13
This article deals with theoretical analyzing of the fan spray of atomized water created by a slot-hole sprinkler and used as a water fire protection curtain. The purpose of the study was to develop a method for calculating some of the most important parameters of water curtains still determined by complex experimental measurements, namely, the droplet velocities, their concentration and thickness of the equivalent water layer. The method of finding of these values on the basis of the theory of submerged jets is proposed. The derived formulas allow the calculating of their spatial distributions originating from the design characteristics of the drencher installation. Application of these relations to the previously developed mathematical model of thermal shielding allows the expansion of possibilities of its practical use. The obtained results can be applied to designing of water curtains for fire-fighting purposes and determining of their optimal operation modes.
