Surface waves past movible region of surface pressure in a channel of trapeziodal cross-section

Applied hydromechanics, Vol. 16 (88) ¹ 4, (2014) p.66-78
A linear problem of generation and evolution of the surface waves, and convergent responses on the free surface of a channel of trapezoidal cross-section when the rectangular surface pressure region moves at a constant velocity from the state of rest is solved. In order to solve a problem in respect of a velocity potential, a transformed coordinate system and an integral transformation for longitudinal coordinate, and expansion into a Fourier series for a transverse coordinate are used. The explicit solution bots for a wave field and for damped components is obtained. Based on the calculations performed, the peculiarities of forming and structure of the ship (pressure) waves are analysed depending on the movement mode, trapezoidal channel and characteristics of the moving region.
