Research of round soil viscosity using torsion device

The experimental results of viscosity of 5 soil types on the device torsion and shown that the destruction of the structure of saturated soil last moves in the shear zone from the solid state to a mixture of "ground-water", which has all the characteristics of non-Newtonian fluid properties of the second group, the viscosity of which varies in time. The results show that a mixture of "ground-water" has a variable viscosity which depends on the magnitude of the vertical stress, density and particle size distribution of the soil, the gradient and duration of the shear rate. Designed and manufactured at the Institute torsion device, which obtained patent of Ukraine allows to determine the quantitative characteristics of the viscosity of various soils, which are common in Ukraine.
