Surface waves in a channel generated by moving region of surface pressure

Applied hydromechanics, Vol. 15 (87) ¹ 4, (2013) p.40-48
The linear problem of generation and evolution of the surface waves, and convergent responses on the free surface of a channel of rectangular cross-section when the rectangular surface pressure region moves at a constant velocity from the state of rest is solved. In order to solve a problem in respect of a velocity potential, the integral transformations for longitudinal coordinate and time and expansion into a Fourier series for a transverse coordinate are used. The explicit solution for a wave field in quadratures for damped components is obtained. Based on the calculations performed, the peculiarities of forming and structure of the ship (pressure) waves are analysed depending on the movement mode and characteristics of the moving region and channel.
