Modeling of the velocity and pressure fields in the rectangular cavity zone, located on the flat channel wall. Part I²

Applied hydromechanics, Vol. 15 (87) ¹ 4, (2013) p.3-12
The paper analyses numerical investigation results obtained for pressure fields and nonstationarity effects in case of incompressible fluid moving in the area of a rectangular cavity located on a bottom of a flat channel. A method of flow parameters calculation is based on the direct numerical solution of nonstationary Navier-Stokes equations in velocity-pressure variables. It is shown that under the conditions of a stationary flow in the channel with a rectangular cavity, the Reynolds number growth results in the flow nonstationarity in the cavity area. The work is focused on detailed studies of pressure distribution inside of the cavity and in its location area depending on the Reynolds number for three cases of a cavity length and two shapes of a streamwise velocity profile at the entry section of the channel.
