Experimental investigation of the effect of body form on its integral characteristics

Applied hydromechanics, Vol. 15 (87) ¹ 3, (2013) p.3-24
On the basis of the analysis of the form of a body high-speed hydrobionts and birds it is offered to approximate a forward part of their body three spheres, the interfaced concave surfaces on which are formed Goertler vortices (GV). The experimental technique of research of stability GV on the concave plates is developed. The susceptibility natural GV to introduced in a boundary layer to the longitudinal vortical systems formed by means of developed generators of longitudinal vortices is investigated. Conditions of formation steady GV, including, and behind a site of curvature are found out. It is developed new bionics profiles which hydrodynamic properties have been investigated in modeling experiment. Comparison with hydrodynamic characteristics of a serial rudder of a vessel is executed. Lift coefficient of the bionics rudder exceeded characteristics of serial profiles of a rudder in a wide range of corners of attack. Recommendations for increase in efficiency of a bionics rudder are given.
