Semi-implicit technique for calculation of the non-hydrostatic flows with free boundary in the σ-coordinate system

Applied hydromechanics, Vol. 14 (86) ¹ 2, (2012) p.41-52
A numerical method for free-surface non-hydrostatic flow computation in the σ-coordinate system is presented. The method is based on the idea of splitting of the pressure into a hydrostatic component and a correction term evaluated in a subsequent manner at each integration step. This correction term is computed by solving a system of linear equations with a 25-diagonal matrix, which is obtained by substituting the discrete formulation for the velocity field into the discrete continuity equation. A fairly good agreement of the obtained results is shown when comparing with the approximate analytical solutions for short waves evolution in a rectangular basin problem, as well as the experimental data on wave propagation characteristics over the submerged bar in a flume and experimental data on mixing of two fluids with different densities.
