Problems of by-pass laminar-turbulent transition

Applied hydromechanics, Vol. 7 (79) ¹ 3-4, (2005) p.114-124
The results of experimental investigation of transport processes are presented for cases when laminar-turbulent transition initiated by external and internal disturbances of different nature (increased free stream turbulence, separation, their combination and periodic velocity nonstationarity) arises on streamlined surface. The special attention is paid to problems of upper thermal transition prediction and methods of calculation based on the total energy of flow disturbances and effective viscosity at an outer edge of a dynamic boundary layer are proposed.
