Turbulent boundary layer on deformable surface

Applied hydromechanics, Vol. 7 (79) ¹ 3-4, (2005) p.35-43
The mathematical model has been formulated for the interaction of stationary turbulent boundary layer with the compliant surface of viscoelastic layer. On the basis of flow boundary conditions, determined are the parameters which connect the energy of disturbances of the turbulent flow with mechanical and geometric properties of viscoelastic layer. Described is the modification of the energy exchange between components of the Reynolds stress tensor inside the turbulent border layer in the flow over compliant surfaces. Explanation of the mechanism of friction drag reduction in the flow over an absorbing surface. Dependencies have been revealed that connect friction drag reduction with local Reynolds number and static and dynamic parameters of viscoelastic materials.
