Modelling of heat spreading in internal waters and near-shore sea areas

Applied hydromechanics, Vol. 6 (78) ¹ 4, (2004) p.34-44
Numerical three-dimensional model of stratified flows with free surface is described. The model is intended to describe heat transport processes in different water bodies. The hydrodynamic equations in hydrostatic approximation are completed by heat and salt transport equations and k-e model of turbulence. The special attention is devoted to parameterization of heat fluxes between water and atmosphere. The numerical solution was carried out with use double vertical sigma coordinate system and with splitting of velocity into baroclinic and barotropic modes. The problem was solved by use implicit finite-difference scheme in vertical direction and explicit scheme in horizontal plane. Examples of calculation of heat dispersion for two energy objects in the Netherlands are presented.
