Numerical investigation of fluid inlet to a pass duct with slightly permeable linear roughness

Applied hydromechanics, Vol. 4 (76) ¹ 4, (2002) p.32-39
Stationary Navier-Stokes equations have been solved numerically to describe imcompressible viscouse flow that enters a channel with symmetrical near-wall porous layers where the fluid experiences a distributed linear drag force being proportional and opposite to local velocity vector. Analytical one-dimensional steady-state solution has been used to formulate boundary condition and examine numerical solution. Flow transformation over initial region of the channel is highlighted by detailed computation of several laminar flows with Reynolds number Re≤10. A generalisation of Schlichting relationship for the channel's initial region length is suggested to account for two new parameters determining the flow.
