A model study of effectiveness of using AR-estimation of the angular spectra to determine localization domains of the limited sources in small-sized objects

Acoustic bulletin, Vol. 16 ¹ 4, (2013-2014) p.17-32
The paper deals with studying the structural features of angular power spectra of the acoustic field from the finite sources in small-sized objects comparable with wave length. The possibility of use of this information for determining the localization area of these sources is investigated. The problem is solved on the basis of the developed procedure of autoregressive evaluation of angular power spectra. The data on mutual spectral power density of the signals recorded in spatially distributed points of the object's surface are chosen as the informative parameter. The numerical analysis is preformed for model object in the form of finite cylindrical pipe. The surface and volume sources are considered, the structure of acoustic field is determined. Two variants of location of the two-element antenna are considered along with its displacement across the pipe's surface. The structures of reliefs of autoregressive estimations of angular power spectra of the sources are presented for different variants of their position along the pipe's axis. The possibility of estimation of source localization area on the basis of analysis of these structures is shown. The factors affecting the accuracy of this procedure are determined. The option of assessing the source location depth is studied and the most effective measurement setups are specified.
