Oscillation of a thin-walled rod with an overhead tank filled with liquid

A general mathematical model of the dynamics of an elastic rod with an attached reservoir containing the liquid is developed on the basis of the provisions of the linear theory of motion of solids with cavities partially filled with an ideal fluid and the linear theory of thin-walled rods. Formulated spectral problem for free oscillations of the mechanical system is solved by the method of decomposition. With the help of the Ritz method, the original problem is reduced to the analysis of generalized algebraic eigenvalue problem. The presented calculations results for the frequencies and mode shapes have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
