On matching of signal processing with propagation medium in problems of acoustic leak detection

Acoustic bulletin, Vol. 15 ¹ 2, (2012) p.28-42
The acoustic techniques for leak detection and localization play an important role in the diagnostics systems of different pipelines. The matching of signal processing with physical features of a propagation medium can form the foundation for increasing the efficiency of diagnostic techniques. The model of a leak signal field in the form of a decomposition of normal waves is proposed on the basis of known solutions for the problem on elastic oscillations of the cylindrical shell. Using the offered model, the structure of an optimal processing of a leak signal is synthesized and its special cases are considered. The main difficulty for practical implementation of matched signal processing is the absence or inaccuracy of the a priori data about the parameters of propagation medium. Some solutions of the specified problem are proposed, in particular, the adaptive signal processing algorithm which is invariant to the intensity of signal modal components. The ways for adaptation of signal processing to the wave numbers of propagation medium are considered and hypothesis about the possibility of their a priori forecasting is stated.
