A mechanism of acoustic wave dissipation in linear flexible-chain polymers

Acoustic bulletin, Vol. 13 ¹ 1, (2010) p.30-35
The paper deals with stating of results of studying of acoustic properties of polyvinyl chloride, being a typical representative of linear flexible-chain polymers, in temperature range of (290...350) Ê at frequency of 0.4 MHz. Various mechanisms of energy dissipation of ultrasonic vibrations are considered. It is shown that the thermoelastic effects and phonon viscosity insignificantly effect the direct absorption of ultrasound. The theoretically determined orders of these values occur consistent with experimental results for the local and segmental damping of structural elements of the polymer.
