Wall pressure fluctuations in low-velocity flow near the oval dimple

Acoustic bulletin, Vol. 12 ¹ 2, (2009) p.3-15
The paper presents the results of the experimental study of the fluctuation field of wall pressure generated by vortical structures formed inside the oval dimple on a flat plate at low stream velocities and Red=(1200...4000). The measurements were conducted in a hydrodynamic channel by a group of miniature sensors of wall pressure fluctuations. These sensors were flush-mounted with the streamlined surface of the oval dimple oriented at an angle of 60o to the stream direction and in its vicinity. The root-mean-square values of the wall pressure fluctuations and their power spectral densities have been obtained. The influence of the oval dimple on the integral and spectral characteristics of fluctuation field of pseudosound pressure has been shown. Peculiarities of generation of the stable large-scale vortical structures and their interaction with the boundary layer above the plate have been pointed out.
