Cavitational erosion in the near field of axisymmetrical hydrodynamic radiator

Acoustic bulletin, Vol. 8 ¹ 4, (2005) p.46-50
The acoustic pulse intensity reduction in the near field of axially symmetric hydrodynamic radiator is considered. An expression for specific power absorbed in the unit of liquid volume is obtained as a function of duration of exponential pulse and distance from the boundary of sound generation domain. The cavitation activity of radiator's near field is experimentally investigated after the erosion of specimens. The theoretical results are compared with experimental ones. A direct dependence between the specimen's weight reduction and the specific power of the waves absorbed by the unit of liquid volume is discovered.
